California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment team is pleased to announce the first round of tribal grant funding through the California Energy Commission’s Tribal Research Grant Program.

Through the Fifth Assessment’s Tribal Research Program and Tribal Research Grant Program, the State is investing in tribally led climate change research initiatives. Funding through the Tribal Research Grant Program is available to support projects focused on climate research, Indigenous Knowledge(s), and similar projects tribes deem a priority. This grant program will also support Tribal capacity and participation throughout the Fifth Assessment.

Applications for this funding opportunity are due November 17, 2023 by 5:00 p.m. PST

Tribal Research Grant Program Solicitation

CEC and OPR staff are hosting a pre-application workshop on September 14, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to answer questions about the solicitation and application process.

Additionally, CEC and OPR staff will host a series of office hours on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. starting September 21, 2023 and continuing through October 19, 2023 to answer questions about the Tribal Research Program and Tribal Research Grant Program.

We encourage prospective applicants to participate in Pre-Application Workshops and Office Hours, but it is not required.
