Improving Precision Medicine for Breast Cancer in Latinas
Principal InvestigatorElad Ziv, MD
Professor of Medicine, UC San Francisco
With the ultimate goal to improve hereditary cancer risk assessment in Latina women, this project will address both genetics and community practices. The team will reclassify Latina-specific genetic variants in breast cancer susceptibility genes by adding 2,500 new cases to an existing dataset. In combination with non-genetic risk factors, risk prediction is expected to improve. In parallel, a promotora-based bilingual program will be implemented to enhance access to education about hereditary cancers, identify women with at-risk family histories, and provide navigation of services, including genetic counseling, screening, and preventive care.
