The Governor’s Office of Planning and Research has updated the OPR Renewable Energy webpage to include resources on energy storage systems in response to Assembly Bill 546 (Chiu, 2017). These resources are intended to help local jurisdictions plan for energy storage systems.
OPR has also partnered with the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) Research Program to develop a statewide Energy Storage Guide. This publication will help local jurisdictions standardize permitting requirements and timeframes without sacrificing important safety protections. The solicitation for this publication will be released this spring and can be found at the link below (see Developing Lessons Learned):
Please contact Trelynd Bowles at Trelynd.Bowles@opr.ca.gov with any questions regarding AB 546 or the Energy Storage Guide. In addition, OPR is continually seeking examples of permitting templates, documents, and resources to share with jurisdictions for wider use.
