2012 Climate Change Conference

Confronting Climate Change: A Focus on Local Government Impacts, Actions and Resources

April 9, 2012: California Endowment, 1000 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, CA

We would like to thank Mayor Villaraigosa for opening the conference and all who were able to attend this event. This one-day conference discussed the most recent scientific understanding of climate change impacts to cities and counties throughout California and outlined the tools and resources for local governments to address climate change impacts. Discussions throughout the day focused on local government case studies, coordinated regional efforts, funding opportunities and strategies to reduce risk and impacts that will create jobs and help local economies. The event also offered opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking between local governments in attendance.

This event was the start of a larger statewide discussion on ensuring local governments have access to the tools, resources and guidance to allow effective integration of climate change impacts, and measures to address those impacts into local plans and programs. The discussions during the day support the development of a local government section of the California Adaptation Strategy. Additional events are being planned throughout the State – additional information will be posted when it becomes available.
